Pearson Test of English

What is PTE (Pearson Test of English)?

PTE Academic Practice Test is one of the tests based on genuine day-to-day scenario of academic and general subject matter which measure the English proficiency of a candidate (student or professional from a non-native English country willing to settle abroad in a native English speaking country).

Test includes graphical diagrams, abstracts, passages, and many more items that belong to stuffs in the vicinity around you. The test also includes pronounciation from both native English and non-native English orators precisely that you hear on the TV, movies, and real dialogue that are used in day-to-day life..

PTE has Academic and General, Young learners, and Business English test, four modules.

The Pearson Test of English Academic

PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English speakers willing to study abroad. It tests Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. There is one multi-level test.

The Pearson Test of English General

(Formerly The London Test of English, these are designed to reward positive achievement in English language learning. The tests consist of two parts: a written paper and an interview. PTE General integrates all four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) and focuses on assessing the ability of communicating in English, rather than test-taking skills.

The test is conducted by Pearson PLC group as a computer based examination. Students can apply to any college which accepts PTE scores for admission ranging from undergraduate, postgraduate to MBA programs.

PTE is accepted by thousands of institutions in the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Ireland, including universities like Harvard, Yale and INSEAD.

PTE Young Learners

PTE Young Learners is a fun English language assessment for students aged six to 13, delivered by Edexcel, the UK’s largest examining body.

It tests a young learner’s ability to use structures and functions in realistic contexts and, later on in the series, tests their ability to use language to carry out specific communicative tasks, with an emphasis on real-life scenarios rather than on knowledge of specific language items and vocabulary.

How to register for PTE

Anyone can appear for the 3 hours PTE or Pearson Test of English examination from anywhere around the world after registering online. Indian students can appear for the test at:

The fee for the PTE examination is Rs 10,800.

PTE Scoring Pattern

The result will be mailed to each candidate individually. The PTE scores include overall score, communicative skills scores and enabling skills scores.

  • The Overall Score reflects the overall English language ability of a candidate. The range of score is 10-90 points.
  • Scores for Communicative skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing) range from 10-90 points for each skill.
  • Scores for enabling skills (Grammar, Oral Fluency, Pronunciation, Spelling, Vocabulary and Written Discourse) range from 10-90 points for each skill.

How does PTE score helps?

A student can apply to colleges accepting PTE for undergraduate, Postgraduate and MBA studies. Usually, the minimum scores one needs to apply to a college abroad are:

  • 51-61 for undergraduate programs
  • 57-67 for postgraduate programs
  • 59-69 for MBA programs
